City High Middle School senior Daniel Lopez said it was “pretty cool” this week to see his winning acrylic painting reproduced on a 30- by 17-foot vinyl banner downtown. Lopez, 17, a senior at City High Middle School, won the Consumers Energy Smart Art youth competition launched in the spring, earning a $1,000 college scholarship. Seven of the top 10 recently announced were from City. “My piece was kind of abstract because I wanted to do something different,” said Lopez about the painting entitled “Illusion or Reality? Renewable Energy” that he worked on after school. “I still don’t feel like it is my best work.”
