New DTE program lets customers support renewable energy

DTE Energy Co. is launching a new pilot program to financially support clean energy sources by offering customers a method — equivalent to about $5 per month for a 25 percent investment — to voluntarily help fund DTE-owned wind and solar farms.

Customers starting in April will have the chance to virtually receive some of their electricity from the Pinnebog Wind Project in Huron County and three solar farms in Detroit and Lapeer.

Under the MIGreenPower program, customers can subscribe in 5 percent increments, up to 100 percent of their power. For example, a typical residential customer who subscribes to an additional 25 percent renewable energy might see their bill increase about $5 per month “while knowing they are helping to support Michigan’s clean energy future,” DTE said in a news release.
